Unfortuantly Terrible twos doesn’t start at two in fact you can pretty much bet it will be on and off through the whole year after there first birthday! Can anyone relate to a time when a whole plate of beans has been launched across the room and all over your freshly hoovered beige carpet during a dinner time tantrum? Or maybe when you’ve got your whole weekly shop on your arms because who actually wants to do two trips to the car and back? A child wrapped round your leg as they then decide walking isn’t an option and no isn’t an answer? If you’re wondering how to escape the day without doubting your sanity then let my show you how my top 5 tips can help save the day.
First of all preparation is key because let’s face it if you haven’t got your s**t together then neither has your child.
1) Buy a new dummy/pacifier every week.
This doesn’t concern parents who have somehow managed to get there child to not take to a dummy but if your like me and made that huge mistake then please take note. These little rubber comforters are misplaced, thrown out the window, flushed down the toilet and become lost in places we couldn’t imagine 24/7. Try and avoid a tired two year old with no dummy on hand this could end badly.
2) Car snacks/Drinks and entertainment
Lets be honest car journeys aren’t a whole lot of fun especially for a lively two year old who is strapped to a seat and hasn’t got a clue on how long for. Food is a great distraction and if your two year old is like mine and currently eating you out of the house due to an unexpected growth spurt then I’m sure they will be hugely satisfied. Toys and YouTube are also a life saver.
3) Don’t stress about mess!
Yes a tidy home is a happy home I couldn’t agree more, however it’s doesn’t matter how old your child is, having children is messy Buisness! It goes from Milk stained sofas and Chocolate Fingerprints on the walls to Lego in your feet and eventually makeup marks on the carpet, you’ll never have a clean house for very long whilst your kids live at home. Instead of rushing around like a maniac take a break have a brew and put your feet up, cleaning can be done when your child free. Some children love to copy and find cleaning fun, buy a children’s cleaning kit and let them help and join in.
4) Bumps and tumbles, be plaster ready!
Playgrounds, walks and even soft play areas! Two year olds are usually running around like wild animals literally climbing, jumping and bouncing off the walls. BE PREPARED! You don’t want to find yourself with a toddler that’s just noticed the pea sized bloody scrape on their knee and you haven’t got a plaster on hand, I’m talking full on panic and melt down. Maybe to avoid another issue make the plasters fun cause what child wants a boring plaster on there leg?
5) Follow through with threats
If you threaten to take your child’s toy if they are being naughty make sure you follow through. Two year olds are cheeky and like to test you, don’t feel bad about showing them who’s boss and who’s in control.
“Feel what you need to feel and then let it go do not let it consume you”.
